US Lynchings

As a result of anti-negro sentiments, riots broke out in Springfield, Illinois, 100 years ago. The military provided food and shelter for 3,000 Negroes in Normal Park.
Reports ending up in South Africa quote the New York Daily Mail who said "racialism is spreading like fever in the United States."
A mob attacked a jail close to New York and 'the arrival of cavalry alone prevented the lynching of a negro. The newspaper adds that lynching orgies are imminent in the towns of Rome and Galveston'.

(Eastern Province Herald, August 19, 1908)

Remarkable to think that US is now at the point where they might have a black President.
